As part of the exhibition Provocations and Correspondences. Franco Mello between arts and design, the Plart Foundation is pleased to present a one-day workshop on conservation and restoration of design by Giovanna Cassese, art historian, professor at the Naples Academy of Fine Arts, president of the ISIA (Higher Institute for Artistic Industries in Faenza) and of the Restoration Department of the Plart. The event Conserving Design takes up the theme of The future of the contemporary, Conservation and Restoration of Design, first international conference on the topic, held at the Plart Foundation in 2015 as part of the International Design Festival.
The workshop aims to introduce participants to design conservation issues, presenting conservation case studies from the Plart collection (such as the Incastro Seat designed by Franco Mello in 1972 for Gufram) and focusing the participants’ attention on Franco Mello’s activity, to understand, also through an interview with the designer, the intentionality of his works, specifically addressing the issues of materials and technology, permanence and sustainability.
